Wolfgang Information
Wolfgang is a Filipino rock band. The current lineup consists of Francis Aquino (drums), Manuel Legarda (guitars), and Basti Artadi (vocals). In 1994, Wolfgang sent tapes of his original compositions, "Darkness Fell" and "Left Alone," to local radio stations DWRT 99.5 and DWLA 105.9. These songs quickly became fan favorites. Tone Def, the rock imprint of California's indie Ivory Records, signed the group. In 1995, they unveiled their debut studio album titled Wolfgang.
Wolfgang left Tone Def on June 15, 1996, and signed with Sony Music Entertainment Philippines's Epic Records (SMEP). Semenelin, the band's debut for Epic Records, was certified double platinum. In the Philippines, Wolfgang quickly rose to prominence as a top band. At the 1996 NU107 Rock Awards, band members took home several trophies, including Artadi for Vocalist of the Year, Gemora for Drummer of the Year, Legaspi for Bassist of the Year, and the band as a whole for Artist of the Year and Listener's Choice Award.
Two tracks from the original Filipino release of Semenelin were re-recorded in English for the English-language release in the United States in March 1997. The longstanding bassist, Mon Legaspi, who was also a member of the bands The Dawn and Kontra, passed away on October 3, 2022, due to heart arrest.
