The Villanova Wildcats are Villanova University's official men's basketball team. The squad participates in the NCAA Division I as a member of the Big East Conference. The 1920–21 campaign was their debut gameplay. Villanova, sometimes known as the Wildcats, is among the five Philadelphia college basketball teams with a heated rivalry.
Between 1985 and 2018, the Wildcats have been crowned national champions three times. 1985, they beat out teams with higher seeds to win the NCAA championship.
Kris Jenkins's game-winning shot in the final seconds of the 2016 NCAA Championship game is sometimes called "The Perfect Ending" since it was one of just two NCAA Men's Championship games decided by a buzzer-beater. The 2018 championship was the climax of a season widely regarded as one of, if not the best, in collegiate basketball history.
Villanova is tied with Temple University for the most Philadelphia Big Five championships with 27, including a streak of five straight years (2014–2018). About eighteen times, the Wildcats have qualified for the National Invitation Tournament; in 1994, they were crowned champions.
As of the end of the 2021 season, Villanova's 1,817 victories rank them ninth all-time in Division I men's basketball and nineteenth overall.
