Detroit Lions Information
The Detroit Lions is a football team from Detroit, Michigan. On July 12, 1930, the Portsmouth, Ohio, team became a member of the National Football League under the name Portsmouth Spartans. Due to financial difficulties, the team moved to Detroit in 1934 and changed its name to the Lions to avoid confusion with the city's Major League Baseball (MLB) team, the Tigers.
As the franchise with the longest postseason win streak in the league, dating back to the 1957 championship, they won just one playoff game in 1991. On September 20, 2021, the Lions played the Green Bay Packers while wearing white pants with their white away outfits. These plain white pants were popular during the "scarlet and black" period of the 1948 and 1949 seasons. Dan Campbell was hired on January 20, 2021, as the Lions' head coach.
The 2021 season it marked the return of WXYT-FM as the Lions' flagship station. Play-by-play was handled by Jason Ross Jr., Devin Gardner provided color commentary, and sideline reports were provided by Dannie Rogers in 2023.
The Detroit Lions are entering the 2025 season with high expectations after a franchise-best 15–2 record in 2024, though their playoff run ended in a divisional-round loss to Washington. In the 2025 NFL Draft, they focused on bolstering both lines, selecting defensive tackle Tyleik Williams and offensive guard Tate Ratledge early. Later picks included wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa and offensive lineman Miles Frazier for depth. The Lions' schedule is among the league's toughest, featuring prime-time games against the Ravens, Chiefs, and Eagles, as well as holiday matchups on Thanksgiving and Christmas. With a strong returning roster, Detroit aims to contend for the Super Bowl.
