Indianapolis Colts Information
The Indianapolis Colts finished 3-9 in their inaugural season after being created in Baltimore in 1953. In 1958, the first professional football game to utilize the overtime rule was the Indianapolis Colts' victory over the New York Giants. This victory was the Colts' first national title.
The 1982 Colts season was a complete bust, with a record of 0-8-1. After a disagreement with Baltimore City leaders over using public funds to construct a new stadium and poor attendance at home games, the Colts relocated to Indianapolis in 1984.
Following a disappointing 3-13 season in 1997, the Indianapolis Colts selected quarterback Peyton Manning in the 1998 NFL Draft. The club made 11 trips to the NFL Playoffs under Manning's leadership and that of head coach Jim Mora, Tony Dungy, and Jim Caldwell. Of those, nine were in consecutive seasons from 2002–2010.
The Manning era ended in 2010; in 2012, after suffering from many neck ailments, the team dismissed him. The Indianapolis Colts selected Andrew Luck as quarterback in the 2012 NFL Draft as the team's first overall choice. Luc has hung up his hat.
After a 2003 league realignment, the club became a part of the AFC South and is now an NFL member. The Colts have won two Super Bowls and five national championships. So far in the 2019 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts have been a part of 28 different playoff berths. Their division title is 16 times, and their conference title is seven times.
