Miami Dolphins Information
The Miami Dolphins play American football and are situated in South Florida. The Dolphins are a football team from Miami, Florida that plays in the American Football Conference (AFC) East of the National Football League (NFL). Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami Gardens, Florida, is the team's home games venue. Stephen M. Ross presently owns the team.
The Dolphins have been around longer than any other Florida professional sports franchise. The Dolphins are the only American Football Conference East team that was not an original AFL franchise. Along with the Atlanta Falcons, the Dolphins were among the earliest professional football teams in the southeast.
The Dolphins were established by Joe Robbie, an attorney and politician, and Danny Thomas, an actor and comedian. In 1966, they joined the AFL. The last professional football club to call this area home was the Miami Seahawks, who competed in the All-America Football Conference in 1946 before morphing into the first version of the Baltimore Colts.
The Dolphins formerly used the facilities of a Boca Raton, Florida, private boys' boarding prep school called Saint Andrew's School for its year-round training camp and practice sessions. The merger between the AFL and the NFL in 1970 brought Miami into the NFL. Since Marino's retirement, the team's success has been lackluster at best, with only two division titles (2000) and five trips to the playoffs (2000, 2001, 2008, 2016, and 2022).
The Miami Dolphins concluded the 2024 season with an 8–9 record, falling short of the playoffs. Looking to rebound, they drafted Michigan’s Kenneth Grant in the first round to shore up their defensive front, followed by guard Jonah Savaiinaea from Arizona. Miami also added cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. and quarterback Quinn Ewers later in the draft. Trade buzz has surrounded Jalen Ramsey, but Tyreek Hill has publicly voiced support for keeping him. The Dolphins kick off the 2025 season against the Colts and will also play a notable international game in Spain. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa enters a crucial sixth year.
