The Detroit Pistons are an NBA franchise that calls Detroit, Michigan, home. The squad plays in the NBA as a part of the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. The team began as a professional basketball club in 1941. The Pistons became the official moniker of the franchise in 1948. The team eventually relocated to Detroit, now known as the Pistons.
The Pistons' official uniform has chrome, red, white, navy, and royal blue. Hooper is the team's official mascot, a horse decked out in a Pistons jersey. In 1989, 1990, and 2004, the Detroit Pistons were crowned NBA champions. In 1985, the squad advanced through the first round of the playoffs.
The Pistons have won three NBA Finals, seven Conference crowns (two in the Western Conference and five in the Eastern Conference), and nine Division Championships. They played the Minneapolis Lakers at home on March 2, 1960. At Joe Louis Arena, they also faced the New York Knicks in a five-game playoff series beginning on April 27, 1984.
The team used the first overall choice in the 2021 NBA draft to take Cade Cunningham. They ended the 2021–22 season with a 23–59 record for the Pistons, marking the third straight year that they did not make the playoffs.
The 2022–23 Pistons concluded with a 17–65 record. Dwane Casey resigned as head coach and moved to the front office after the 2023 season concluded on April 9. The Pistons officially introduced Monty Williams as their new head coach on June 2, 2023.
