New Edition Information
Founded in 1978 by Bobby Brown, New Edition is an American R&B/pop group hailing from Boston, Massachusetts's Roxbury area. The general public interprets their moniker as a tribute to the Jackson 5. The band is widely believed to have inspired contemporary boy bands, and they achieved their pinnacle of fame in the 1980s.
Originally, the band's lineup included lead vocalists Ralph Tresvant, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, and Bobby Brown. After Brown's successful solo career took off in late 1985, the band remained a foursome for one record before Johnny Gill joined in 1987. Hits like "Candy Girl," "Cool It Now," and "Mr. Telephone Man" were among their early releases.
Joining Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark on New Year's Rocking Eve on December 31, 2022, was New Edition. Each of the six members was there, and they rocked out various songs from their individual and group albums. The National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame inducted New Edition on September 24, 2023, in Farmington Hill, Michigan.
New Edition confirmed in December 2022 that they will continue touring in 2023. New Edition's next tour, dubbed "The Legacy Tour," will visit 31 U.S. cities. In addition to Guy, the R&B/hip-hop trio Tank and Keith Sweat will also be performing as tour openers. On March 9, 2023, in Columbia, South Carolina, the debut concert of New Edition will commence.
Beginning on February 28 and running through March 9, 2024, New Edition performed at the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas as part of their residency, announced on November 6, 2023.
