Carolina Hurricanes Information

The Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) are a Raleigh-based professional ice hockey team (Raleigh, North Carolina). The Carolina Hurricanes franchise plays its home games at the PNC Arena (an 18,680-seat arena), which was formerly known as the RBC Center. The franchise was famous as New England Whalers (1972–1979) and joined the NHL as the part of the NHL–WHA merger hence, renamed as the Hartford Whalers. The team got famous as Carolina Hurricanes when shifted to North Carolina in 1997. The Carolina Hurricanes are popular for their Red, White, Grey, and Black uniforms.

Founded in November 1971, the Carolina Hurricanes made for the first time to the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals, where Detroit Red Wings defeated the team by 4-1. But the team won the 2006 Stanley Cup defeating the Edmonton Oilers (7 games) and brought the title of the first mega professional sports championship to the North Carolina State.

The Carolina Hurricanes have some well-known Hall of Famers in its history, including Paul Coffey, Ron Francis (as a team captain), Mark Recchi, and Jim Rutherford (inducted in 2019). Chuck Kaiton (radio play-by-play announcer), as an honor given by the Hall of Fame, received the 2004 Foster Hewitt Memorial Award.

Fox Sports Carolinas holds the legal rights for regional broadcasting done for the Carolina Hurricanes. Tripp Tracy does the cold commentary, sideline reporter/web host/ TV host is Mike Maniscalco, and John Forslund performs play-on-play.

The NHL awards and trophies earned by the team include the Stanley Cup (2005–06), Prince of Wales Trophy (2001–02, 2005–06), Conn Smythe Trophy (Cam Ward: 2005–06), Frank J. Selke Trophy (Rod Brind'Amour: 2005 -06, 2006–07), Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Ron Francis: 2001–02), Lester Patrick Trophy (Peter Karmanos Jr.: 1997–98), and a few more.
The franchise records crafted by the Carolina Hurricanes on an individual basis include; Most goals in a season by Blaine Stoughton; 56 (1979–80), Most points in a season by Mike Rogers; 105 (1979–80, 1980–81), Fastest hat trick by Ray Whitney, 1 minute 40 seconds, Most shots on goal in one game by Jeff Skinner (13), and many more. On a team basis, the records are Most wins in a season: 52 (2005–2006), Most points in a season: 112 (2005–2006), Most consecutive home wins are 12 (2008–09), and a few more.
