Mariah the Scientist (October 27, 1997) is the stage name of Atlanta, Georgia-born R&B singer Mariah Amani Buckles. Master (2019) and Ry Ry World (2021), her first and sophomore studio albums, were released by RCA Records and Tory Lanez's label, One Umbrella, respectively. To Be Eaten Alive (2023), her third studio album, was her first to chart on the Billboard 200 after she left both companies and joined Epic Records.
As a member of the primary school chorus, Buckles first became aware of her voice. She started penning songs while pursuing a biology scholarship at New York's St. John's University; however, she eventually left to focus on her music career full-time. Mariah's real enthusiasm for science inspired her stage moniker. In January of 2018, she made her SoundCloud debut with the six-song EP To Die For.
Tory Lanez, a rapper from Canada, found her. She continued to work on her sound in anticipation of the release of her first studio album and toured with him after that.
A second extended play (EP) by Buckles, Buckles Laboratories Presents: The Intermission, was published on March 11, 2022. "Spread Thin," the lead single from her sophomore EP, was her first single to reach the top 20 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100.
Buckles appeared on the "Secrets" remix by A Boogie with da Hoodie on February 24, 2023. After a few weeks, on April 14, 2023, she dropped her debut song of the year, "Rear View," a collaboration with YoungBoy Never Broke Again, as the second single promoting his upcoming sixth studio album, Don't Try This at Home.
