The Mountain West Conference held its postseason men's basketball tournament, the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Tournament event. The Thomas & Mack Center, located at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in Paradise, Nevada, took place from March 9th to March 12th, 2022. To qualify for the NCAA tournament, the Boise State Broncos, who won the tournament, were given an automatic bid to participate.

The San Diego State Aztecs were the reigning champions after triumphing in the previous season. Every single one of the eleven Mountain West institutions participated in the competition. To seed teams with equal percentages, a tiebreaker procedure was used to determine the order of the teams based on their conference record. 

The top five teams in the event were granted byes into the competition's quarterfinals. The surviving teams contested the first round of competition. Except for the tournament in 2020, the processes for breaking ties have remained the same.
