Montreal Canadiens Information
The Montreal Canadiens are an ice hockey team that plays in the NHL for the U.S. They play in the Atlantic Division of the National Hockey League Eastern Conference. Since their inception in 1909, the Molson family has owned the Canadiens. Geoff Molson is also one of the owners.
Le Club de Hockey Canadien is the club's official name. The name is commonly called the Habs in both French and English. Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge, La Sainte-Flanelle, Le Tricolore, Les Glorieux, Le CH, Nos Glorieux, and a few more are all French nicknames. The squad plays their home games at the Bell Center.
The Montreal Canadiens are said to be the oldest ice hockey team in continuous operation anywhere in the world. It is also the only surviving NHL team that existed before the league's inception. With 24 Stanley Cup victories, the Canadiens have more than double the number of any other NHL team. The squad has also been recognized as North America's second-most successful professional sports team across the four main U.S. and Canadian sports.
The Canadiens overcame a 3-1 series deficit to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 in the first round of the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs. The Canadiens continued their Stanley Cup run by defeating the Winnipeg Jets in the second round.
For the first time in the franchise's modern existence, owner Geoff Molson approved an in-depth "rebuild" of the squad. The Canadiens were ranked fifth-to-last in the next season, 2022–23.
