The Los Angeles Kings play in the National Hockey League. The Kings have been a professional hockey team since June 5, 1967. They are a part of the Western Conference of the NHL. The team was founded after Jack Kent Cooke was granted an NHL expansion franchise for Los Angeles on February 9, 1966.
In a region of Los Angeles called Inglewood, the Kings played their home games in the Forum for 32 years before moving to the crypto.com Arena for the 1999–2000 season. The Kings switched out their silver alternates for a revamped version of their white uniforms from the 1990s, beginning with the 2021–22 season. The design was a modest departure from the originals, with new striping patterns and chrome helmets.
A second "Reverse Retro" uniform based on the 1980–1988 look was introduced for the 2022–2023 season. The white jersey, purple stripes, and gold trim were reversed this time.
The Kings continued rebuilding in 2020–21 by dealing away Jeff Carter, signing Alex Iafallo to a new contract, and bringing up young talents like Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Arthur Kaliyev, and Quinton Byfield.
In April 2024, the Kings beat the Calgary Flames 4-1 to secure their spot in the playoffs for the third year. For the third year in a row, the Kings lost all five playoff games against the Edmonton Oilers.
