The New York Rangers are another major league ice hockey club based in New York City. The NHL club competes in the Eastern Conference's Metropolitan Division. All home games are played at the iconic Madison Square Garden. The NBA's New York Knicks also call Madison Square Garden, located in Manhattan, their home court. There are three teams in the New York area, and one of them is the New York Rangers.
According to legend, Tex Rickard founded the Rangers in 1926, making them one of the NHL's "Original Six" teams. When they won the Stanley Cup in 1928, they were the first club in NHL history to do so. The blue, red, and white of the Rangers' outfits are instantly recognizable. They have won 4 Stanley Cups, 3 Presidents' Trophies, 2 Conference Championships, and 7 Division Titles.
The Rangers' success began with Henrik Lundqvist in net, and since then, they have missed the playoffs only once (in 2017). In 2014, they competed in the Stanley Cup Finals but ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Kings in five games.
By defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in February 2024, the Rangers tied a franchise record set in the 1939–40 and 1972–73 seasons with ten consecutive victoriesIn March 2024, the Rangers traded and traded a fourth-round selection for defenseman Chad Ruhwedel with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Presidents' Trophy and the Metropolitan Division were won by the Rangers in their last regular season game in April, a 4-0 victory against the Ottawa Senators. With 55 victories and 114 points, they also established new franchise records for a single season.
