Sam Roy Hagar (October 13, 1947) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter born in Salinas, California. He also started the Cabo Wabo tequila brand, restaurant chain, and the Sammy's Beach Bar rum company. He is currently the lead vocalist of the bands Chickenfoot, Sammy Hagar, and the Circle. Sammy Hagar hosts the AXS TV series Rock & Roll Road Trip.
Hagar's solo career has seen him work with various bands. More than merely occasional sidemen, several musicians frequently performed alongside him. Hagar's albums typically feature the backing vocals recorded by the same band. The Waboritas, Hagar's most famous and enduring fan club, was formed in 1997 for the Marching to Mars Tour. Hagar's solo career took a back seat to his time spent with Van Halen; the solo artist only made brief studio appearances in 1987 and 1993 between 1985 and 1996.
2008, Hagar, Anthony, and Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) formed a supergroup called Chickenfoot, including guitar wizard Joe Satriani. When it was first released in June 2009, their self-titled album shot straight to the top of the Billboard 200. 2011, after a short tour, Chickenfoot released their third studio album.
