Atlanta Hawks Information
The Atlanta Hawks play professional basketball in the NBA for the city of Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The Atlanta Hawks are a professional Eastern Conference's Southeast Division basketball team. State Farm Arena is the site of all home games for the team. The franchise can be traced back to 1946 when Ben Kerner and Leo Ferris founded the Buffalo Bisons in Buffalo, New York, as a National Basketball League (NBL) team.
The Atlanta Hawks have made several roster changes in preparation for the 2020-21 NBA season. Danilo Gallinari and Bogdan Bogdanovic were veterans who had proven themselves on the court. They bolstered their backcourt depth by acquiring Rajon Rondo and Kris Dunn. After a 14-20 start to the season in March 2021, head coach Pierce was let go and replaced by temporary head coach Nate McMillan.
Dwight Howard and Josh Smith, both of whom were selected by the Hawks in the 2004 NBA draft and grew up in Georgia, have helped fuel a heated rivalry between the Hawks and the Orlando Magic. The two clubs met in the postseason three times (1996, 2010, and 2011). The Magic swept the Hawks in the 2010 playoffs and won the second-round series against them in 1996 in five games.
During the regular 2023-2024 season, they recorded 36–46. The Hawks acquired Danilo Gallinari, three first-round draft choices in the future, and star point guard Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs in a transaction on June 30, 2022. The Hawks's 23-24 season came to a close in the Play-In Tournament after being defeated by the Chicago Bulls.
On May 12, Atlanta won the draft lottery, giving them the first overall pick since 1975, even though their odds were barely 3%. Forward Zaccharie Risacher, the 2024 NBA first-overall pick, has officially signed with the Atlanta Hawks. As is standard practice for the team, they did not reveal the deal's details.
