The New Orleans Pelicans are a basketball club based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The team plays in the NBA and is a Western Conference Southwest Division member. The Pelicans began as the New Orleans Hornets in 2002. Later, the name was changed to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, then to the present one.
The official uniform colors of the New Orleans Pelicans are gold, red, and navy blue. The team is delighted to have Pierre the Pelican as its official mascot.
The New Orleans Pelicans are struggling in the 2024-25 season, finishing with a 21-61 record, 14th in the Western Conference. Some major key trades included Brandon Ingram to Toronto for Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, draft picks, and Dejounte Murray to Atlanta for Dyson Daniels and others. Injuries have plagued the roster: Zion Williamson (back), Herb Jones (torn labrum), and Dejounte Murray (torn Achilles) are out for the season, while CJ McCollum is day-to-day. Rookie Yves Missi, the 21st overall pick, averages a double-double. The team hired Joe Dumars as executive VP, replacing David Griffin.
