The Minnesota Wild is an NHL club that calls Saint Paul, Minnesota, home. Minnesota Wild home games are played at the Xcel Energy Center. The team is a part of the NHL Central Division and Western Conference.
Although the Minnesota Wild was established on June 25, 1997, the team did not begin play until the 2000–2001 season. Since the Minnesota North Stars relocated to Dallas, Texas, in 1993, this was the first National Hockey League team to play in Minnesota since then.
They defeated the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim 9-1 in their season opener and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning the next night. The team made its first trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs in the 2002–03 season and shocked everyone by advancing to the Western Conference Finals.
Bill Guerin became the fourth general manager in Wild history on August 21, 2019. The Wild dismissed Bruce Boudreau as head coach on February 14, 2020, and replaced him with Dean Evason in an interim capacity.
The Minnesota Wild has had a very good 2024 season, with some ups and downs, but overall good play. They have since bounced back, though, including a 4-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on December 14, with Kirill Kaprizov scoring two goals and assisting on another. Kaprizov remains one of the league's most dynamic players and has continued to be the team's go-to player. Goaltender Filip Gustavsson has kept the team competitive, largely. Injuries have hit their depth, but the Wild, a big player in the Western Conference, are still looking to make a run at the playoffs as the season progresses.
