The Detroit Red Wings (or simply the Wings) are a professional ice hockey team. The Wings are based in Detroit. The Red Wings are one of the six original franchises in the NHL. The team now plays in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The Detroit Cougars, founded in 1926, changed their name to the Detroit Tigers in 1930. Before becoming the Red Wings in 1932, the team played under the moniker Detroit Falcons for the following two seasons.

As of 2023, the Detroit Red Wings have won the third-most Stanley Cups of any NHL organization. The team is only behind the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
