The Georgetown Hoyas are the men's basketball team that competes for Georgetown University in Big East Conference play and NCAA Division I men's college basketball. Georgetown University has fielded men's collegiate basketball teams since 1907, and Ed Cooley is now the head coach of the program.

Georgetown reached the Final Four five times and won the national title in 1984. They have won or shared the regular season title 10 times in the Big East and a record eight times in the conference tournament. With 31 appearances overall, they are 13-time NI Tournament participants.

Patrick Ewing, Dikembe Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning, and Allen Iverson are just a few of the NBA greats that came out of the Georgetown Hoyas program. Other notable alums include former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue and US Congressman Henry Hyde. The Basketball Hall of Fame counts seven former Hoyas as players or coaches.

Ed Cooley accepted an offer to become the next head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team on March 20, 2023. Before this, he had served in the same capacity for twelve years at Providence College, a competitor school in the same league. Many thought hiring Cooley would be a good way to boost the program's performance.
