John “Webb” McMurry (May 19, 1954) is an American actor, guitarist, and rock & roll singer. He is professionally known as Webb Wilder. He is currently residing in Nashville, Tennessee. McMurry was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. His family told a weird thing about him that McCurry could sing before he could walk in his childhood. He started to play guitar at the age of 12. At the age of 14, McMurry had started playing in local bands.
McMurry’s aunt Lillian McMurry was the founder of Trumpet Records. She was also a mentor to McMurry and gave him useful advice that helped Wilder grow in the music industry. In 1984, McMurry created the character “The Webb Wilder.” It was created for a short comedy film. The character was a backwoods private detective.
Wilder has hosted a radio show for Sirius Radio, as well as signed with a few major labels. He also worked with independent labels. As an actor, his notable appearance was in the 1993 film called “The Thing Called Love” by Peter Bogdanovich. His notable studio albums include It Came from Nashville (1986), Hybrid Vigor (1989), Doo Dad (1991), Town and Country (1995), Acres of Suede (1996), About Time (2005), Scattered, Smothered, and Covered (2005), Born to Be Wilder (2006), and a few others.
