Warish Information
Warish is an American band based in Southern California. The band was started in 2019 with a brief five-song EP that the full-length Next followed to Pay in 2021. The current lineup consists of Alex Bassaj (bass guitar), Justin de la Vega (drums), and Riley Hawk (vocals). The band is best known for taking metal and grimy punk influences and twisting them into psychedelic. Hawk is the son of professional skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.
In early 2018, Warish started to play together in their home of Oceanside, California. Hawk and McDonnell’s founding members started jamming on fast-paced but sludgy punk ideas. Hawk looks to wild-eyed freak rock acts such as Butthole Surfers and Scratch Acid while developing a vocal sound backed by distortion and reverb. All the parts of their self-titled debut EP were released by the duo alone, but they were joined by additional bass players when performing live. In February 2019, the band released their 11-minute EP. It came out digitally as well as in the form of limited-edition 7”. It took the band almost two years to unveil their first-ever long-player, Next to Pay.
