Vivian Sakiyyah Green (May 22, 1979) is an American R&B pianist, singer, dancer, record producer, and songwriter from Philadelphia, PA. Her music is defined as soul, neo-soul, and R&B. Green was born in East Oak Lane in Philadelphia and began her interest in music young. Singing and playing the piano were her childhood hobbies. She soon began songwriting as well. At 13, Green became a member of Younique, a female quintet. She later graduated from Parkway Northwest High School for Peace and Social Justice. She earned her big break at 19 by working as a backup singer for Jill Scott.
In late 2002, Green was signed to Columbia Records and released her debut album entitled A Love Story in 2002. The album featured her number one single, "Emotional Rollercoaster." Green appeared in the Cole Porter biopic De-Lovely. She sang a cover version of "Love for Sale," a 1930 song by Portal. In an episode entitled "The Carpetbaggers," during the first season of NBC's drama series American Dreams, Green performed Holloway's 1964 hit "Every Little Bit Hurts."
Green appeared on Cyndi Lauper's The Body Acoustic album in 2005 and released her second album entitled Vivian during the spring of 2005. Some of her other notable studio albums are Beautiful (2010), The Green Room (2012), Vivid (2015), VGVI (2017), and Love Absolute (2020). Green was nominated for Best R&B Female Artist in BET Awards 2003, Lady of the Soul Train Award, and Soul Train Award in 2015.
