Barrett-Jackson is a Scottsdale, Arizona-based American auto auction corporation specializing in collectible cars. It was started by Tom Barrett and Russ Jackson, two business partners from Scottsdale. Fiesta de los Autos Elegantes was first started in 1967 to raise funds for local amenities.
December 1971 saw the inaugural Barrett-Jackson auction, intended to be a one-off. Its popularity led to its expansion to a yearly event, and additional collector vehicle auctions in the Scottsdale region were born out of it.
Craig Jackson assumed full responsibility for the business after his father and brother passed away in 1995. Jackson enriched the auction events with vendors and live entertainment. In 1996, the Speedvision network (later Speed Channel) started airing the Barrett-Jackson auctions, and the brand's popularity skyrocketed.
The Barrett-Jackson auctions have been staged yearly at Scottsdale's WestWorld event venue since 1989. However, the 2000s saw a significant expansion, with the addition of more auction locations, such as those in Palm Beach, Florida, and Las Vegas, Nevada. This expansion has brought the excitement of Barrett-Jackson to a wider audience, making the most important event of the year, the Scottsdale auction in January, even more intriguing.
Cars owned by celebrities or featured in movies are common items at Barrett-Jackson auctions, and a portion of the proceeds from these sales go to different organizations, inspiring a sense of appreciation. Additionally, there is an auction for automobile memorabilia. Barrett-Jackson's commitment to charity was further solidified when it was bought by IMG in August 2022, giving them a majority share of 55%.
