Gary Owen Information
Gary Owen (July 26, 1974) is an American stand-up comic and actor born in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S., whose real name is Owens. His targeted performances at events like Shaquille O'Neal's All-Star Comedy Jam Tour and his starring stint on BET have helped him build a sizable African-American fan base.
Following his 1997 "Funniest Serviceman in America" title, he had a breakthrough on Comic View, a stand-up showcase on Black Entertainment Television. After making his cinematic debut with this picture, Owen starred in College, Little Man, and Daddy Day Care. He made an appearance on BET's The Gary Owen Show in 2016.
Owen co-starred alongside Kevin Hart and Gabrielle Union in the Screen Gems comedy Think Like a Man, adapted from Steve Harvey's book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.
In addition to his recurrent role as Zack on Tyler Perry's TBS program House of Payne, Owen has acted in films including Rebound, College, Daddy Day Care, and Highway. It was as Larry in "Meet the Blacks" that he made his appearance. His show, The Gary Owen Show, airs on BET.
In addition to Brian Volk-directed Gary Owen: #DoinWhatIDo (2019), he has released two comedy specials, Gary Owen: I Agree with Myself (2015) and Gary Owen: True Story (2012), both of which were directed by Leslie Small. Gary Owen: Black Famous, a comedy special that Volk-Weiss co-directed, premiered on Showtime in 2021.
