Fantasia Barrino Information
Fantasia Monique Barrino-Taylor (June 30, 1984) is an American R&B singer. She is better known by her stage name Fantasia. In 2004, she won the third season of American Idol after earning widespread acclaim for her performance of the "Summertime" song from the album Porgy and Bess. After her victory, Barrino's first song, "I Believe," debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. With this achievement, she joined Lauryn Hill, the only woman to achieve this feat.
Barrino released "Free Yourself" as her debut album in 2004. The album received three Grammy nominations and a platinum certification from the RIAA. Her song "When I See U" from the 2006 album Fantasia spent eight weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Another popular song, "Bittersweet," from her third studio album, Back to Me (2010), earned her a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. The song "Lose to Win" was featured on Barrino's fourth album, Side Effects of You (2013), debuting at number two on the Billboard 200.
Burrino's 2005 autobiography, Life Is Not a Fairy Tale, became a New York Times bestseller. A famous TV movie was also based on this autobiography in 2006. She has also appeared prominent in the Broadway productions After Midnight (2013) and The Color Purple (2007–2008). Burino debuted in the world of movies in 2023. She played Celie again in the film version of The Color Purple.
