VHS Collection Information
The three people who comprise the VHS Collection have known each other since childhood. The New York City middle school that Conor Cook and James Bohannon attended was also attended by James and Nils Vanderlip. In 2015, VHS Collection started playing live at house shows and local rock clubs on New York City's Lower East Side before selling out many headlining performances at the Mercury Lounge.
Despite the lack of released material, the band had already settled on a unique style that combined electronic and alternative rock elements with retro synths and guitars. The group's debut EP, titled the band's name, was released independently in December 2015. Consequence of Sound gave the EP's track "Lean" a positive review, and it quickly became one of the most popular songs of 2016 on Spotify. The 2016 EP Stereo Hype by VHS Collection featured "Waiting on the Summer" and "Ghost" and was the band's second release.
That year, the band opened for Bloc Party at festivals like Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. Night Drive was the band's second studio album, released by PIAS in 2022. Among the album's singles, "Survive" lasted three weeks in the top 40 US Alternative Radio Charts. In July of 2022, the band performed at Brooklyn Steel as part of their Night Drive tour in the United States.
