Vanilla Fudge is an American rock band that is known for its slow and extended heavy rock arrangements of contemporary hit songs. The most notable song by Vanilla Fudge so far is “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.” The current lineup of the band includes Mark Stein (lead vocals and keyboards), Vince Martell (guitar and vocals), Carmine Appice (drums and vocals), and Pete Bremy (bass and vocals). The group was founded by Stein and Bogert, who had played in Rick Martin and The Showmen. The band was initially called the Pigeons. Vanilla Fudge has, so far, worked with record labels such as Atco, Rhino, WorldSound, Escapi, and Cleopatra.
Vanilla Fudge was managed by the reputed Lucchese crime family member named Phillip Basile, who operated several popular clubs in New York. The debut album by the band was a self-titled album, released in 1967, and produced by Shadow Morton. Morton produced two more albums for the Vanilla Fudge, including The Beat Goes On and Renaissance. All the members of the band were great admirers of the Beatles. They have also covered several songs from the legendary band such as “You Can’t Do That,” “Eleanor Rigby,” and “Ticket to Ride.”
Vanilla Fudge has released several other notable studio albums, including Near the Beginning (1969), Rock & Roll (1969), Mystery (1984), The Return (2002), Out Through the In Door (2007), and Spirit of ’67 (2015). Some of the band’s notable singles are Season of the Witch, Where is My Mind, Shotgun, and Some Velvet Morning.
