Tremaine Aldon Neverson (November 28, 1984) is an American R&B singer and actor born in Petersburg, Virginia who goes by the stage name Trey Songz. His debut studio album, I Gotta Make It, was released in July 2005. It came out when he signed with Atlantic Records after record producer Troy Taylor found him.
His first top 20 hit, "Can't Help but Wait," came off his 2007 album, Trey Day. A track from Songz's 2009 album Ready, "Say Aah," featuring Fabolous, reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. At the 2008 Grammys, Ready was up for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Songz's fourth studio album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure (2010), featured the hit single "Bottoms Up" (with Nicki Minaj), which was released the following year.
Chapter V, Songz's fifth studio album, was his first to enter No.1 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in 2012. At the 2013 Grammys, the album's first track, "Heart Attack," was up for Best R&B Song. The smash song "Slow Motion" was taken from his sixth studio album, Trigga (2014). He followed up 2017's Tremaine with 2020's Back Home. Over 25 million copies of songs and albums by Trey Songz have been sold worldwide.
Released on April 29, 2020, "Back Home" features Summer Walker. It was purely written by Trey Songz. Hitmaka sampled Rose Royce's "I'm Going Down" for the track. He also dropped a video to go along with it.
Mahaneela, the video's director, has indicated that "Black love" inspired the project. On October 9, 2020, Songz released Back Home, his eighth studio album.
