Thurston Moore Information
Thurston Joseph Moore (July 25, 1958) is an American musician. He is best known as a member of Sonic Youth. He was born in Coral Gables, Florida. Moore was raised as a Catholic, attending St. Joseph’s School in Danbury. He then attended St. Mary’s School in Bethel, and from 1973 to 1976, he attended Bethel High School. In Fall 1976, Moore enrolled himself at Western Connecticut State University, but he soon left and moved to East 13th Street to join the post-punk and no-wave music scenes.
Throughout his career, Moore has collaborated with many big names such as Takehisa Kosugi, Yoko Ono, John Zorn, Haino Keiji, John Edwards, Steve Noble, John Russell, Cock E.S.P, Nels Cline, The Thing, William Winant, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Mike Watt, Christian Marclay, Daniel Carter, William Hooker, DJ Spooky, Lydia Lunch, Maryanne Amacher, and several others.
Moore released a solo album, Tree Outside The Academy, through Ecstatic Peace on September 18, 2007. The album was recorded in Amherst, Massachusetts, at J Mascis’ studio. The album also featured Steve Shelley (drummer) and Samara Lubelski (violinist) of Sonic Youth. It featured collaborations between Christina Carter of Charalambides and Mascis. They both performed a duet and Moore on a track entitled “Honest James.” He also played guitar on “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us” on November 24, 2013.
