The Zolas Information
The Zolas is a Canadian indie rock band with the current lineup consisting of Cody Hiles (backing vocals, percussion, and drums), Dwight Abell (guitar, keyboard, backing vocals, and bass), and Zachary Gray (programming, sampling, keyboards, guitar, and vocals). Before forming their band in 2008, Zachary Gray and Tom Dobrzanski were in the band Lotus Child from 2003 to 2008. John MacLachlan Gray, a famous author and composer is Gray's father.
Tic Toc Tic, the first album of The Zolas, came out in the fall of 2009. Howard Redekopp, who has previously collaborated with The New Pornographers and Tegan and Sara, served as the album's producer. Dobrzanski recorded the bulk of the album in a home studio he set up in his parent's basement while he was a student at the University of British Columbia. Several other Vancouver acts, including Said the Whale and Hey Ocean!, have also used the studio.
Released on October 2, 2012, Ancient Mars is Zolas' second full-length album. It was revealed on 2/20/13 that the duo's "Knot in My Heart" from their album Ancient Mars was featured in the background of a 2/20/13 episode of the NBC show Whitney. Ancient Mars, the album's title track, was written by lead singer/guitarist Zachary Gray while he was a student at the UBC Sauder School of Business.
