The Warlocks Information
The Warlocks is an American rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Jason Anchondo, George Serrano, Christopher DiPino, Earl V. Miller, John Christian Rees, and Bobby Hecksher. In 1998, Bobby Hecksher formed the band in Los Angeles under the moniker Velvet Revolver, which the Grateful Dead had previously used. Hecksher uprooted his family from Florida and set off for Los Angeles when he was 15. Hecksher began his musical journey on the cello before going on to the bass guitar. Grandpa Hecksher was the proprietor of a radio station.
Before forming the band, Hecksher was involved in several other Los Angeles-based projects, such as Charles Brown Superstar Don Knotts Overdrive. When Hecksher left DKO in 1995, the band eventually changed its name to Head Set. He also briefly played bass guitar with Beck on the Stereopathic Soulmanure album and with The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
On July 4, 1998, the Warlocks gave their first performance. The band inked a two-album deal with the legendary independent label Bomp! in October 2000 after receiving parallels to Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat era and Spacemen 3. The band's first release, the mini-album The Warlocks, came out in 2000 thanks to a contract with Bomp! that was rumored to have been signed in Hecksher's blood.
