The Samples Information
The Sample is an American band that was formed in Boulder, Colorado in 1987. The current lineup of the band consists of Sean Kelly, Tom Askin, Billy Mutchler, Jared Johnson, Joe Biglin, and Karl Dietel. The group has been associated with many record labels such as Apache, MCA, What Are?, and Arista. On April 19, 1987, the band played its first show in Colorado. The show took place at Tulagi’s, a Boulder venue.
The Samples released its self-titled debut album in May 1989. The band embarked on their first national tour in 1998 summer. They began gaining attention gradually. In the initial years, the group used to play in front of the college audiences mostly. They allowed their music to spread through taping and bootlegging. The Samples continued to tour as well as released their self-published EP entitled, Underwater People. The EP was composed of both live tracks and studio-recorded tracks.
In 1992, The Samples released their third album entitled “No Room” in 1992. The album was produced by Jim Scott. The band has released several notable studio albums throughout their career including The Last Drag (September 24, 1993), Autopilot (September 13, 1994), Outpost (July 16, 1996), Here and Somewhere Else (July 28, 1998), The Tan Mule (September 15, 1998), Return to Earth (April 10, 2001), Black & White (March 9, 2004), Rehearsing for Life (November 29, 2005), America (January 1, 2014), Indian Summer (Summer 2019).
Their live albums include Life At Deerfield Academy (1993), Transmissions from the Sea of Tranquility (September 23, 1997), and a few more albums. They have also released several compilation albums, EPs, and other albums.
