The Queers Information
The Queers are a punk rock band that originated from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The group was founded in 1981 by Joe P. King (a.k.a. Joe Queer). He was joined upon by Jack Hayes (a.k.a. Wimpy Rutherford) and Scott Gildersleeve (a.k.a. Tulu). The trio's current lineup consists of Alex Martin (a.k.a. Hoglog Rehab) – Drums, and Chris May (a.k.a. El Cheeto Bandito) – Bass, along with Queer on Guitar and Lead Vocals. There is a long list of former members who joined and left the group throughout the years.
The Queers began to play live shows at the beginning of 1982. Soon the band broke up in 1984, but the members reunited two years later. Since then, The Queers have faced a few hiatuses and reunions. The first album released by the group was Grown Up in 1990. The album was a moderate success and brought band notability within New England. It was followed by the next album, Love Songs for the Retarded, in 1993. This album came out on Lookout! Records that released six albums by the band in 2006.
The Queers performed the cover of "Wipe Out" featured on the film Surf's Up 2007 by Columbia Pictures and ImageWorks Studios mockumentary. Some of the band's notable studio albums are Beat Off 1994, Don't Back Down 1996, Beyond The Valley... 2000, Pleasant Screams 2002, Munki Brain 2007, Back to the Basement 2010, and Save The World 2020. The group also released a few extended plays, compilations, Live albums, and split albums.
