Pimps of Joytime is a soul band that originated from Brooklyn and New Orleans. The group was founded in 2005, and its music is defined as soul, funk, and afrobeat. The current lineup of Pimps of Joytime includes founder Brian Jay (vocals, guitar), Mayteana Morales (vocals, percussion), Kimberly Dawson (vocals), David Bailis (bass, keys, sampler), and Anthony Cole (drums).
Brian Jay is no stranger to working with A-List talent in the studio as a team. He has produced albums for stars such as Cyril Neville (The Neville Brothers), Bernard “Pretty” Purdie (The World’s Most Recorded Drummer), James Andrews, and Corey Henry (Galactic). He has even shared the stage with Art Neville, Zigaboo Modeliste and George Porter (The Meters), Eddie Bo, and many more.
Pimps of Joytime have released five studio albums and one single so far that include High Steppin, Funk Fixes and Remixes, Janxta Funk!, "Booty Text" (single), Jukestone Paradise, and Third Wall Chronicles. The last album was released via Sugar Road Records on March 24, 2017, and it unites the fans around peace, love, and music. Pimps of Joytime headlined at respected West Coast venues in February and March 2017 before the band headed to the East Coast for its national album release event, which took place at The Bowery Ballroom on March 25, 2017.
