The Microphones Information
The Microphones is an American, Washington-based Indie rock, Indie folk, and experimental board formed in 1996, ended in 2003, and was revived in 2019. Phil Elverum is the core songwriter and producer.
Elverum recorded his first full-length album “Tests” in the late 1990s on Elsinor Records. Simultaneously, he delivered his initial 7” single, “Bass Drum Dream,” on Up Records. The second full-length album, “Don’t Wake Me Up,” was released in 1999 on K Records. Almost all the initial recordings of the project were released by the label K Records. The Studio albums records include “It Was Hot, We Stayed in the Water,” “The Glow Pt. 2”, “Microphones in 2020”, “Mount Eerie.”
Among them, Pitchfork Media called The Glow Pt. 2 as the top album of 2001. Critics lauded mount Eerie for its imaginative production that reflected a turning point in Elverum’s life.
The Microphone’s song “I Lost My Wind” was re-recorded for the compilation “Collaborate With a 1940s Wire Recorder” in 2011. Two years later, the band’s fourth studio album was remastered on P.W. Elverum & Sun, Ltd (Elverum’s label). Later, a compilation of the Microphones’ old cassette releases, “Early Tapes: 1996–1998,” was delivered.
Elverum performed with D+, Black Belt Eagle Scout, and Little Wings and played a one-off concert in Anacortes, under The Microphones. Their most recent album is “Microphones in 2020,” released on August 7, 2020. This album revolves around Elverum’s search for meaning.
