The Meteors Information
The Meteors is a psychobilly band founded in 1980. The current lineup consists of P. Paul Fenech, Wolfgang Hordemann, and Hennes. The Meteors are initially from London, England, and is said to be the second that identifies itself as psychobilly, after The Cramps. However, according to About.com, the Meteors is the first true psychobilly band. The group performed its first show during Rockabilly Night at The Sparrow Hawk in north London.
The Meteors released its debut album entitled “In Heaven” in 1981. It was followed by “Wreckin’ Crew” in 1983. When the new group gained some attention, they began to play alongside a few punk bands in the United Kingdom, such as UK Subs, Anti-Nowhere League, The Damned, and The Clash.
The Meteors made their debut television appearance in late 1980 on Thames TV afternoon show named White Light. In the same year, the band made a short film named Meteor Madness, featuring comedian Keith Allen. The short film was released as a double feature with the 2 Tone ska film, Dance Craze, in March 1981.
The Meteors have released most of their albums on Mutant Rock Records. The band has provided a long list of notable albums, including The Power of 3 (2016), Doing the Lord’s Work (2012), Hell Train Rollin’ (2009), Hymns for the Hellbound (2007), The Lost Album (2004), These Evil Things (2004), Psychobilly (2003), Psycho Down! (2003), The Meteors vs. The World (1999), Bastard Sons of a Rock’n’Roll Devil (1997), and Mental InstruMentals (1995).
