The Lords of 52nd Street is a rock band that is led by three former members of the Billy Joel Band, including drummer/percussionist Liberty DeVitto, multi-instrumentalist Richie Cannata, and guitarist Russell Javors. Some of the other current band members are David Clark, Dennis DelGaudio, Doug Kistner, and Malcolm Gold. Doug Stegmeyer is the deceased member of the band. Doug Stegmeyer backed singer-songwriter Billy Joel from 1976 to 1981. The music style of the band is defined as rock, soft rock, pop-rock, pop, and rock and roll.
A few of the early releases by The Lords of 52nd Street include 52nd Street, Glass Houses, The Stranger, and the live Songs in the Attic. All these four albums were produced by Phil Ramone and reached the top ten on the Billboard charts. The band garnered the nickname "The Lords of 52nd Street" from Ramone during the recording of 52nd Street in 1978. The Lords of 52nd Street's status as an official group was established right after the reunion of Cannata, DeVitto, and Javors. This reunion was held on October 23, 2014 ceremony where these three band members were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. The band performed a short set of Joel hits including tracks like "Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway)" (from Turnstiles), "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" (from The Stranger), and "You May Be Right" (from Glass Houses).
The Lords of 52nd Street continued to perform their thrilling and playing faithful renditions of the recorded originals. The group also started a tour in February 2016 by an opening at The Space in Westbury, New York.
