The Joy Formidable Information
The Joy Formidable is an alternative Welsh rock band. The current lineup of the group consists of Matthew James Thomas (drums and percussion), Rhydian Dafydd (bass and vocals), and Rhiannon “Ritzy” Bryan (lead vocals and guitar). The band was formed in Mold, Flintshire, in 2007. They are currently based in London, England.
The Joy Formidable signed a record deal with Canvasback Records in 2010, a subsidiary of Atlantic. They started working on their debut album soon after they signed a deal. On January 24, 2011, The Big Roar was recorded in London. According to Dafydd, the album covered a lot of emotional range. The Joy Formidable produced it with the engineering being done by Neak Menter. The band even traveled to Los Angeles to get the album mixed with producer Rich Costey, best known for working with bands such as Glasvegas, Foo Fighters, Muse, and Mew.
The Big Road included singles “Whirring,” “Cradle,” “Austere,” “A Heavy Abacus,” and “I Don’t Want to See You Like.” The band’s song entitled “Endtapes” got featured on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’s soundtrack in November 2011.
Another song of The Joy Formidable, “Wolf’s Law,” was released on August 23, 2012. A free download from their second studio album of the same title. The album was released officially in the United States on January 22, 2013.
