The Highwaymen Information
The Highwaymen was one of the American country music supergroups, also known as Nelson, Jennings, Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash. The supergroup originated in 1985, and it did not have any official name when it released the very first two discographies entitled Highwayman and Highwayman 2. The first album by the Highwaymen was credited to "Nelson, Jennings, Kristofferson, and Cash.” The group was composed of four of country music's biggest artists. These artists pioneered the outlaw country subgenre, and are known as Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson. The music genres of the Highwaymen are country rock, outlaw country, and country.
The Highwaymen carried out a remake of Guy Clark's "Desperados Waiting for a Train." This remake reached the Top 20. Their single "Highwayman," a Jimmy Webb composition hit number one spot on the country hits list. Between the years 1996 and 1999, the four members of the group provided the voice and dramatization for the Louis L'Amour Collection. It was a four-CD box set of seven Louis L'Amour stories. The group members of the Highwaymen were also starred in one movie together named Stagecoach (1986).
The four members of the Highwaymen broke up, but they reunited for a second effort in 1990. Their second effort was the album Highwayman 2, which reached #4 on the country album chart. This album earned a nominee for the Best Country Vocal Collaboration in Grammy Awards. Some of the other discographies by the supergroup include The Road Goes On Forever (April 4, 1995), along with some compilation albums; The Highwaymen Ride Again, Highwayman Super Hits, Country Legends, The Essential Highwaymen, The Very Best of the Highwaymen, and a few more.
