The Fools Information
The Fools is an American rock band. From Ipswich, MA, the band originally went by the moniker "The Rhythm A's." It featured future Nervous Eaters Steve Cataldo, Robb Skeen, Jeff Wilkinson, singer Mike Girard, and guitarist Rich Bartlett. In 1976, Girard and Bartlett formed The Fools along with Stacey Pedrick (guitar), Doug Forman (bass), and Chris Pedrick (drums).
Their 1979 spoof of The Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer" "Psycho Chicken" was an instant hit on Boston radio. Their next single, "It's a Night for Beautiful Girls," reached 67 on the Billboard Hot 100. They were signed by EMI and toured the United States with The Knack after being signed. Sold Out, their first album was recorded soon after.
Heavy Mental was the band's second album, released in 1981, and it featured a cover of Roy Orbison's "Running Scared," which peaked at #50 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Fools supported Van Halen on their Fair Warning tour that year. World Dance Party by The Fools was released in 1985 on the small label PVC. Many people in New England heard the album's four most popular tracks on the radio: "World Dance Party," "Life Sucks...Then You Die," "She Makes Me Feel Big," and a cover of Manfred Mann's "Doo Wah Diddy," the latter of which also had a music video that was played frequently on MTV.
