Retaliation, the band's first full-length album, was released on the venerable London punk label La Vida Es Un Mus after a string of explosive singles. The Chisel, a band formed in 2020 and features individuals with long-term ties to the London punk scene, has swiftly established itself as one of the most interesting groups to emerge alongside contemporaries like Chubby & The Gang, Stingray, and Big Cheese.
Their music is distinctly rooted in Punk but draws from various styles, including Oi!, anarchist, UK-82, and hardcore. You can't deny the unmistakable Britishness of Retaliation. This album connects the dots between 1982 and now and storms into your record collection before setting fire to your stereo.
Anger and ferocity are immediately apparent in the opening track, "Unlawful Execution," a song against the brutality of the Metropolitan Police ("Tell me what's the difference between right and wrong / When a copper gets to blast a lad who did nothing wrong"). The song "Come See Me" is a fierce tribute to friendship in the face of rude idiots.
