The Chats Information
The Chats are one of the popular Australian punk rock band that is from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The band was formed in 2016, and it is composed of drummer Matt Boggis, guitarist Josh Price, and bassist and vocalist Eamon Sandwith. The Chats generally play garage punk, pub rock, surf punk, and punk rock. The band got famous for their song "Smoko" and its music video.
The three members met in music class at St. Theresa's Catholic College (Noosa, Queensland) at the age of 17. The Chat took their name from the hit phrase "that's chat." It is an Australian slang that is used to describe something terrible. The band released its debut self-titled EP, which was recorded in their high school and released on November 7.
The second EP by the Chats was Get This in Ya released on July 31, 2017. Some of the hit singles by the band are "Do What I Want" 2018, "Pub Feed" 2019, "Identity Theft," and "The Clap." The music videos for "Smoko," "Pub Feed," and "Identity Theft" were also hit by The Chats. The music video for the song "Smoko" was filmed with zero budget. The shooting was done on the building site, and it was directed by Matisse Langbein. Despite the no-budget situation, the video became a viral hit. Not only this, but it drew attention from many famous big-name artists such as Iggy Pop, Josh Homme, and Dave Grohl.
The Chats self-approach has been related to artists like King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. The band has also cited some of the hit Australian bands like; Cosmic Psychos, Dune Rats, and Eddy Current Suppression Ring.
