The Bad Plus is a jazz trio from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band consists of bassist Reid Anderson, drummer Dave King, and pianist Orrin Evans. The music style of The Bad Plus is described as jazz and avant-garde jazz. Reid Anderson, Ethan Iverson, and David King first played together in 1989. Later in 2000, the band officially got established. Anderson, along with King, is originally from Minnesota. On the other hand, Iverson is from Wisconsin.
The first album recorded by The Bad Plus was a self-titled effort that was released on Fresh Sound. These Are the Vistas was a major label debut album which was released in 2003. Later in 2004, Give was released and Suspicious Activity? In 2005. Some of the other discographies by the Bad Plus are Prog 2007, For All I Care, Never Stop 2010, The Rite of Spring, Inevitable Western, The Bad Plus Joshua Redman, and It's Hard. Authorized Bootleg: New York 12/16/01 and Blunt Object: Live in Tokyo (2005) are the two compilation albums by the band.
This trio music combines unique elements of modern avant-garde jazz along with pop and rock influences. The Bad Plus have also recorded different versions of several songs by Ornette Coleman, Nirvana, Aphex Twin, Blondie, Tears for Fears, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, and many more. The group also served music in residence at Duke University in the year 2010 and 2011. On April 10, 2017, the Bad Plus released a statement about Ethan Iverson that he would part ways with the band by the end of 2017.
