Grand Rapids, Michigan's The American Hotel System is a rock band focusing on emotional, thought-provoking songwriting and composition. Their songs have been featured in BuzzMusic, LEVELUP, and Relix Magazine. The group was a 2021 Music Prize finalist and a 2022 Bon Jovi tour support act. Interrobang is The American Hotel System's second album, and it was nearly two years in the making due to various setbacks and delays. The album is a concept record that examines rhetoric through the perspective of mid-century Americana and pulp.
In the three and a half years after the inception of the band and the release of their debut EP, A Search for Sunken Truth, Vol. 1, the band has written and recorded the entirety of this album. The album was scheduled to be recorded in the first quarter of 2020 and released that fall, with singles being released every two months. Disturbed by the outbreak, the music business swiftly shelved their recording projects.
Postcards, the band's folk-influenced EP, and Live At Dogtown Studio, their live album, were recorded in 2020. (Live at Dogtown). Production on Interrobang resumed at the beginning of 2021, just in time for the first release of 2021 Chains. The epidemic baked the album, allowing us more time to process the suffering and devastation in the world before its 2020 release date was pushed back.
