The 5th Dimension Information
The 5th Dimension is an American music band from Los Angeles. The band plays R&B, pop, sunshine pop, soul, and psychedelic soul. It was formerly known as the Versatiles (1965-1966) when the group was founded in late 1965. By 1966 they went by The 5th Dimension. The current lineup of the group includes Florence LaRue, Patrice Morris, Leonard Tucker, Floyd Smith, and
Willie Williams.
The 5th Dimension earned fame during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Some of their initial hits are Medley: Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In (The Flesh Failures), One Less Bell to Answer, Up, Up and Away, Stoned Soul Picnic, Wedding Bell Blues, (Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All, One Less Bell to Answer, and Never My Love. The Magic Garden was an album by the band that brought more success to the 5th Dimension.
The band also recorded songs by some popular songwriters such as "One Less Bell to Answer," written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The 5th Dimension performed the song "Sweet Blindness" in 1968 TV special Francis Albert Sinatra Does His Thing by Frank Sinatra. The group members also appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show twice in 1969 as well as sang a medley consisting of "What the World Needs Now Is Love" and "All You Need Is Love'' by the Beatles on February 23, 1969. The group was also sighted on the British show; This Is Tom Jones.
The 5th Dimension was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame (2002), St. Louis Walk of Fame (2010), and on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 9, 1991.
