Subhumans Information
Subhumans is an English punk rock band. The current lineup of the group consists of Trotsky, Phil Bryant, Bruce Treasure, and Dick Lucas. The band originally consisted of bassist Grant, formerly of the band Audio Torture, guitarist Bruce, and drummer Andy, founded in 1980. After Bruce's mom insisted on changing the band's name from Superhumans to Subhumans, Bruce and the gang finally caved. Andy, the band's original drummer, had left before 1980's end, and Trotsky had taken his place.
In 1981, the band's demo was released. Graham Burnett of the New Crimes journal forwarded it to the band Flux of Pink Indians. After hearing it, the members were so delighted that they gave Subhumans a record release on their newly created label, Spiderleg Records. The next year, in December 1981, the band's first EP, Demolition War, was released on Spiderleg.
While also launching their record label, Bluurg Records, in 1982, Subhumans dropped two further EPs, Reasons for Existence and Religious Wars. The "Wessex '82" EP was the label's debut vinyl release, with singles by the Subhumans ("No Thanks"), The Pagans, Organised Chaos, and The A-Heads. Previously, the label had focused on producing cassette recordings.
