Strung Out Information
Strung Out is a punk rock band with the current lineup consisting of Daniel Blume (drums), Chris Aiken (backing vocals and bass), Rob Ramos (backing vocals and guitar), Jake Kiley (backing vocals and guitar), and Jason Cruz (lead vocals). In Simi Valley, California, the band was founded in 1989. Jason Cruz on vocals, Rob Ramos and Jake Kiley on guitars, Jim Cherry on bass, and Adam Austin on drums made up the original lineup.
They were one of the first bands to sign with Fat Wreck Chords, the record company run by NOFX member Fat Mike, after releasing a self-titled 7" record. Jordan Burns, a former member of fellow Simi Valley residents Ten Foot Pole, took over for Austin when he left the band in 1992. In May 1994, they released their debut album, Another Day in Paradise. It was followed in 1996 by Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues. Their pre-Fat Wreck Chords material was included on the 1998 compilation album The Skinny Years...Before We Got Fat.
After being let go from the band in 1999, bassist Jim Cherry went on to perform in Pulley and Zero Down before passing away at the age of 30 from heart failure in 2002. Chris Aiken took his place, and the eight-song EP, The Element of Sonic Defiance from 2000, was greatly influenced by his musical background. An American Paradox, the group's fourth full-length album, was released in 2002, and it was the first of their albums to chart on the Billboard 200. "Don't Look Back" was a bonus track included in the initial production run.
