Steve Vai Information
Steven Siro Vai (June 6, 1960) is a US musician, producer, and composer. Vai began his musical career in 1978 as a transcriptionist for Frank Zappa when he was eighteen. He then performed with Zappa's band from 1980 until 1983. Vai won three Grammys and was nominated fifteen times.
In addition to his work with Whitesnake, Alcatrazz, and David Lee Roth on both albums and tours, he has also worked with Mary J. Blige, Spinal Tap, Alice Cooper, Polyphia, Motörhead, and Public Image Ltd. On top of that, Vai has headlined tours across the world and played with live-only bands.
"The richest and best hard rock guitar-virtuoso album of the '80s" was the description of his most successful release, Passion and Warfare (1990). It followed his 1984 solo debut, Flex-Able. Vai was featured on the 2022 single "Ego Death" by Polyphia.
Vai released the album Vai/Gash and its lead song, "In The Wind," on November 10, 2022. Johnny "Gash" Sombrotto, a singer who collaborated with Vai on the 1991 album, died in a motorbike accident on September 7, 1998. Hence, the album was never released. A portrait of Sombretto, who suffered severe burns in a motorbike accident in 1977, graces the album cover. On January 27, 2023, the album was released.
Vai appears as a featured artist on the title tune of Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin's Seven Daughters of the Sea CD album, which was published in 2023.
