Squeeze Information
Squeeze is an English rock band. The current lineup consists of Glenn Tilbrook, Chris Difford, Simon Hanson, Stephen Large, Steve Smith, Owen Biddle, and Melvin Duffy. John Cale produced the first EP by Squeeze and most of their 1978 self-titled debut album for A&M Records. Both "Cool For Cats" and "Up The Junction," the band's two highest-charting UK singles, appeared on Cool for Cats (1979), the album's follow-up. After the LP came out in 1979, John Bentley took over for Harry Kakoulli on bass.
New Wave, post-punk, pub rock, and power pop are just some labels for Squeeze's music. The Kinks and The Beatles were major influences on Squeeze. Difford and Tilbrook's songwriting combination has been compared to that of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, a similarity about which the band has "mixed feelings."
Squeeze's new lineup, with Biddle in place of Hurley for good, hit the road in 2021. The band announced in November 2022, in reaction to the cost of living issue in the United Kingdom, asking fans attending their UK tour to send donations to the Trussell Trust and pledging all revenues from their EP Food for Thought to the charity.
