Spacey Jane Information
Spacey Jane is an Australian indie rock band consisting of Peppa Lane (backing vocals and bass guitar), Kieran Lama (drums), Caleb Harper (rhythm guitar), and Ashton Hardman-Le Cornu (lead guitar). The band performed "every week for a good year and a half" of local shows in 2016 and 2017. Having published their first single, "Still Running," in August of 2017, the band has since released "Feeding the Family" and "Thrills," with the former garnering airplay on Perth radio station RTRFM.
All three singles were included in their debut EP, No Way to Treat an Animal, released independently in November 2017. In December 2020, it hit position 23 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Spacey Jane's "Old Enough"/"So You Wanna" double A-side single came out on April 16, 2018. Pilerats contributor Hayden Davies praised the song's "particularly bright and summery" vibe, praising its "light guitar riffs" and "catchy bassline." "So You Wanna," on the other hand, has a "slightly lighter atmosphere" than the rest of their EP's songs thanks to its "lighthearted melodies and soaring vocals."
In the Slight, Spacey Jane's second extended play dropped on November 9, 2018, and featured five new songs. A pair of songs, "Cold Feet" on August 17 and "Keep a Clean Nose," released on October 12, served as a promotion. The album was promoted with a premiere party at the Perth venue Rosemount Hotel, and it has been called a "meeting place of dreamy shoegaze and snappy indie pop." The band participated in Falls Festival 2018/2019 after they won Triple J's Unearthed Falls competition.
